Why are we "The Washington Coast's Best Kept Secret"?

I was out on the golf course earlier in March and was witness to quite the wildlife show. Pulling into the golf shop at 7am, I saw 3 deer grazing on the driving range. Above the range, sat 2 bald eagles that are there daily, on what I call, “the eagle tree.”  I proceeded down to the maintenance barn, dressed warmly, and on to the mower I went.  On the way out to the first green, I noticed the tailless raccoon that hangs around the course all the time.  As I got to the first green, looking over the pond I saw a great blue heron stalking his breakfast.  As I continue around the course next to number 3 green, a little fox crossed my path and looked at me just long enough for me to catch a clear glimpse of him, and kept on trucking. I also saw a couple bunny rabbits on the maintenance road on the way back to the barn.  The only thing I didn’t see on this particular morning was a bear which we see quite often in the summer months. Lastly, on the way back, in the pond on number 8, two muskrats were enjoying a morning swim.  Great stuff that morning!  You never know what a walk in the park will bring at Surfside.

Across the street, the Wyndam hotel is undergoing a huge remodel. The re-opening date is scheduled in September, 2012.  Make your reservations early and come enjoy the golf course too! 

Recently, the high school golf season has started!  The Lady Fishermen have been practicing this March, and with 12 girls that turned out, things are looking up for the team. 

The Ilwaco boys golf team doesn’t start official practice until April. If you don’t know anything of them, here is an overview: They are the 2 time defending state champions at the 1A level; winning 3 out of the last 4.  These kids can play!  As always, their dedication to the game brings them out here daily to work on their games. You don’t win titles unless you put the time in and they sure do! This year, the State tourney is in late May at The Home Course, and with 5 kids qualified for state, we have a great chance to repeat. Good luck to the boys and girls this spring golf season!
